Joey Rubin, attorney at Community Law S.C.

Joey Rubin

Attorney

Joey (they/them) graduated from the University of Michigan in 2020 and the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2023. While in law school, Joey interned with Legal Assistance to Incarcerated People, the State Public Defender in Madison, the Metropolitan Public Defender in Portland, Oregon (remotely) and the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office. Their practice areas include criminal defense and civil litigation. Outside of the firm, Joey is an active member of their synagogue, avid reader and gamer, and a proud co-parent to two beautiful kitties, Oscar and Otis.

Emma (she/her) is a graduate of Hamline University and the University of Wisconsin Law School. In law school, she interned with the Criminal Appeals Project, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, and the Marathon County District Attorney's Office. Emma's practice areas are criminal defense, criminal appeals, and civil litigation. Outside of the firm she enjoys reading, dancing, painting, and spending time with her dog and cat.

Lauren Felder, attorney at Community Law S.C.

Lauren (she/her) joined Community Law in June 2024. She earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay and the University of Wisconsin Law School to earn her J.D. While in law school, she interned with the Wisconsin Court of Appeals and Legal Assistance to Incarcerated People, which sparked her interest in criminal appeals. Her practice areas include criminal law, criminal appeals, small claims, environmental law, and farm law. Lauren strives to provide an excellent criminal defense and believes that everyone deserves access to legal services. She also enjoys finding creative answers to issues in environmental law. To further this goal, Lauren is active in environmental groups, including the Clean Water Action Council of Northeast Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation. In her free time, Lauren can be found riding horses, hiking, or enjoying a good book and a coffee in the company of her cats, Jabba and Hazelnut.

Oren founded Community Law SC in June 2020. He is a graduate of Lawrence University and UW Madison Law School. Oren specializes in criminal defense while maintaining competence in general practices areas focused on the needs of individuals, small businesses, and farms. Outside of the firm he is a farmer, cidermaker, and builder.

Jess (they/them) is the lead paralegal and one of the business managers. They have been with Community Law S.C. since May 2021, working throughout their time in undergrad and developing a fuller sense of the criminal justice system in both theory and practice. They graduated from UW Madison in May 2024 with their BA in Political Science and Gender & Women's Studies. They have a fervent passion for criminal defense and enjoy the challenges presented through their work. They are particularly interested in expanding access to quality legal services to under-represented groups of people- particularly those facing disproportionate policing and state perpetrated violence. Jess intends to attend law school with the goal of becoming a criminal defense attorney within the next few years. Outside of work, they play violin and clarinet in Madison-area ensembles and are a proud pet parent to their cats, Waldo and Willow, and their partner's cats, Celeste and Moby.

Cait (they/them) is a full-time paralegal who is responsible for managing the case loads of Attorneys Emma Hahn and Lauren Felder. They joined Community Law S.C. in May 2024 through a UW internship program and opted to continue their work with us after. Cait graduated from UW-Madison in December 2024 with their B.S. in Psychology and Certificates in LGBTQ+ Studies and Criminal Justice. They are passionate about helping people, especially those who have faced systemic violence and marginalization, and plan to pursue a Master's program in Counseling within the next few years. Outside of work, you can find Cait spending time with their cats, crafting, or browsing thrift stores with an iced coffee in hand.

Hanna (she/her) is a full time paralegal who is responsible for managing Attorney Oren Jakobson's case load. She has been with Community Law S.C. since April 2024. She graduated from UW Madison in May 2024 with their BS in Sociology and a Certificate in History. She is passionate about working with under represented communities and enjoys that her work enables her to connect with these communities throughout Wisconsin. Outside of work, she likes to read at coffee shops around Madison and play with her Golden Retriever, Bear at James Madison Park.

Polly Dalton, mediator at Community Law S.C.

Polly Dalton

Polly is a graduate of Lawrence University and current law student at UW Madison law school. Her legal interests include mediation, legislative drafting and policy advocacy. She has served as an alderperson in the city of Appleton and the city of Stevens Point and has over 10 years of experience starting and operating cooperative businesses and community projects. She has completed the 30-hour Mediator training and volunteers with Judicare Mediation doing eviction and small claims mediation. Polly brings her civic and community service to the Community Law mediation team. Rollerblading, tennis, yoga, ultimate frisbee, lake swimming, dancing and playground tag are some of her favorite ways to move for joy!
